Pharah is a good counter to Reaper
She keeps her distance from his shotguns well enough, and she does not have difficulty hitting him.
Reload animation
I changed it from being a reference to Drake of the 99 Dragons to being one to Matrix, since Neo never reloads a single gun in the movie, he just throw them away then pulls another one from his coat, just like Reaper does. --190.245.61.45 20:21, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
Just for note the reload animation could easily be a reference to Jackie Estacado from The Darkness, who picks up and discards enemies pistols as opposed to reloading them or creates them out of shadows. He additionally shares similar theme (goth imagery, trench-coats, masks ect.) and abilities ( shadow morphing and manipulation).
Additional Trivia
Reaper's first name "Gabriel" may be a reference to the biblical angel, Gabriel, who in some cases was considered an angel of death.
| “ | And the Lord said to Gabriel: "'Proceed against the bastards and the reprobates, and against the children of fornication: and destroy [the children of fornication and] the children of the Watchers from amongst men [and cause them to go forth]: send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle: for length of days shall they not have." —1 Enoch 10:9 | „ |
Additionally, Gabriel was one of five "angels who watch", possibly a reference to Overwatch. In 1 Enoch 20:
| “ | 1. And these are the names of the holy angels who watch. 2. Uriel, one of the holy angels, who is over the world and over Tartarus. 3. Raphael, one of the holy angels, who is over the spirits of men. 4. Raguel, one of the holy angels who †takes vengeance on† the world of the luminaries. 5. Michael, one of the holy angels, to wit, he that is set over the best part of mankind ⌈⌈and⌉⌉ over chaos. 6. Saraqâêl, one of the holy angels, who is set over the spirits, who sin in the spirit. 7. Gabriel, one of the holy angels, who is over Paradise and the serpents and the Cherubim. 8. Remiel, one of the holy angels, whom God set over those who rise. | „ |
Seems like a decent enough connection to me. 172.68.132.223 01:56, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- I noticed in that it says "and destroy the children of the Watchers", similar to his desire to destroy Overwatch's members, and "send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle", similar to how Overwatch was split and fought to it's "death". So I say it's worth noting, but definitely make it brief if you are to add it to his character page's trivia. Probably just note his name reference.--Gills97 (talk) 05:27, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- This is a cool piece of trivia! I agree with Gills about keeping it brief. The quote templates are a bit unwieldy. - TheModster (talk) 18:21, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Reaper's survival
- Recently changed by AlexTheGay, his story now says that it is speculated that Reaper was "sloppily healed by Mercy" after the blast, and then left disfigured. Is there any source for that? Also, I'm not sure "sloppily" should be the word to use, although a humorous choice of a word that I appreciate, I feel if the addition is true, that word kinda throws off the storytelling as well as demeans Mercy, in my opinion. --Gills97 (talk) 18:13, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
It was referenced mostly in voice lines such as the "You tell me,doc" interaction. I said "sloppily" because it was the best I could think of.
Reaper being stunned by Steel Trap?
I don't think the Steel Trap disables Reaper's Wraith Form. I recall many times where a Reaper caught into a Steel Trap would just hover uselessly in air for a few seconds in hopes of not getting focused upon.

Reaper's Spread
Reaper's spread is not the number which is mentioned. That would give him exactly same spread as D.Va, which isn't the case. Reaper has at least twice the spread radius of D.Va.
Parallels to other characters
Reaper's real identity is Gabriel Reyes, sharing the same surname, Latino ethnicity and status as a soul hunting undead ghost with Robbie Rayes, the new version of Marvel's superhero Ghost Rider.
Reaper's taunts, outfit, grim reaping and use of shotguns resembles The Undertaker, who portrayed Clint Eastwood's iconic role as Dirty Harry in a WrestleMania 21 promo.
The Reaper's likeness appears in the music video of The Vengeful One, a song from heavy metal band Disturbed.
The Reaper is also similar to Strife from Darksiders.
Reaper's close friendship with Jack Morrison before turning against him as a villain could be compared to Vergil who became an enemy of his twin brother Dante from Devil May Cry where the main characters are using firearms to hunt demons similarly to Reaper.
Reaper's appearance was also similar to an early concept art of Kylo Ren . Coincidentally they both were fallen heroes who were both masked and hooded with intimidating voices.
- First of all, sign your posts. Second of all, all of those examples are based on tropes. It's silly to list them.Hawki (talk) 12:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Nationality
This keeps coming up, so I'm putting my foot down - stop listing Reaper as Mexican. It's explicitly stated that Reyes was born in Los Angeles. Unless citizenship works differently in the future, that makes him an American citizen. I know Reyes is a Spanish surname, but there's no ambiguity at this point as to his nationality.Hawki (talk) 12:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
