Command ships[1] (a.k.a. command carriers)[2] are a type of massive airborne warship utilized by Null Sector.[1]
Overview
Command ships are massive aircraft, weighing around 300,000 tones and powered remotely by an upscaled power relay.[3] Each vessel possesses an onboard factory that can manufacture seemingly endlessly numbers of combat units which are then deployed to the ground via drop pods. Assuming the material to build combat units is brought aboard via a means such as teleportation, this would allow the command ships to sustain an assault practically indefinitely. Large turrets are located across the ship's hull for ground bombardment and presumably aerial combat.[4]
History
Command ships were used by Null Sector during their global assault against humanity, being deployed to a number of major cities to ferry troops and coordinate combat efforts, including Busan,[5] Rio de Janeiro,[6] Toronto,[7] and Gothenburg.[8] The Gothenburg carrier was forced to retreat following a successful defence of the city by members of Overwatch and the Ironclad Guild, but crashed in the sea due to battle damage. It was later infiltrated by a Talon strike team who retrieved its power relay before the ship was destroyed and sank.[3]
Trivia
Command ships (or similar craft) during the Omnic Crisis
- Similar vessels were utilized by the omnics during the Omnic Crisis,[9] and are used by Volskaya Industries, possibly indicating that they are a widespread type of military craft.[10]
- The command ships used by Null Sector appear to lack any form of conventional energy generation, being powered entirely by an upscaled version of the power relays used by its ground forces to maintain equipment such as shield generators. This indicates all command ships are receiving power remotely, possibly from an omnium under Null Sector's control or some other source.
- The command ship has alternately been referred to as a dropship.[11]
