Mini-events — overwatch

Limited-time events are in-game events that offer the player skins, sprays, Player Icons, Loot Boxes and other cosmetics. Some of these events can be recurring, sometimes offering different cosmetics once returned.

In Overwatch (2016), the non-seasonal limited-time events usually came in the form of smaller scale mini-events, with the event cosmetic usually unlockable through simply playing and winning games and/or watching associated Twitch streamers for a certain amount of time. (Your Blizzard account is required to be linked to your Twitch account to receive these rewards.) Most of the Overwatch mini-events returned as weekly challenges, before the release of Overwatch 2 during the Overwatch Anniversary 2022 event.

In Overwatch, limited-time events followed a similar format to Overwatch (2016). They too were smaller scale mini-events that often coincided with the current Season theme or active collaboration, lasting a short amount of time. Sometimes, limited-time events can feature themed game modes in Arcade.

Often, the limited-time event features unique Challenges. These challenges varied to completing games in featured, temporary game modes, or be more general as simply playing the game. Completing these challenges rewarded players with Cosmetics, Loot Boxes or Battle Pass experience.
