Emre is a Specialist Damage hero in Overwatch. He was one of the five heroes released in Season 1: Conquest on 10 February 2026, making him the 48th hero to be added to the game.
Overview
Emre is a fast-paced "run and gun" hero.[2] He excels at up-close and mid-range fights, dealing consistent and reliable damage. His abilities provide the necessary burst damage and survivability to finish opponents off, while his ultimate deals devastating blows to win fights.

- Unlike most ADS weapons in the game, Emre's ADS does not hinder his move speed.

- General
Emre is an adaptable fighter who is equally deadly up-close and at a distance. His Synthetic Burst Rifle has a reliable three-round burst, and can aim down the sights for easy aiming at longer ranges, and unlike other scopes from heroes such as Widowmaker or Ashe, it does not slow him. When enemies do close the distance, however, he is not afraid to brawl them face-to-face with his Siphon Blaster to more easily maneuver around his opponents and shrug off their damage with lifesteal, or his Cyber Frag to quickly burst them down or hit enemies from surprise angles thanks to its bounce. Finally, his Override Protocol turns him into a deadly airborne threat that rains down punishment on anyone unfortunate enough to get caught in his crosshairs.
That said, while Emre is good at both shooting enemies at range and brawling with them up close, he isn't great at it. His burst rifle has noticeably lower damage output when compared to other ranged heroes such as Soldier: 76 or Cassidy, and his Siphon Blaster has middling damage and a lengthy cooldown, so if it's unavailable, he becomes much more vulnerable. In addition, his Cyber Frags are his only means of burst damage outside of his ultimate, meaning that a lot of his kill potential is tied to having it available, and his ultimate, while definitely deadly, can also be shut down quickly if used recklessly.
- Altered Vitals (Passive)
This gives Emre more independence when compared to other Damage heroes, as he can more quickly regenerate from grievous wounds and get back into the fight more often.
- With this in mind, you can often take much more aggressive positions compared to other Damage heroes, since you won't be as reliant on healers to keep you alive between engagements.
By default, Emre fires his three-round burst rifle from the hip.
- While firing from the hip, the burst rifle deals reliable damage with a very small spread, making it best at medium or close range. Get used to tracking enemies so that all three shots from the burst connect.
- Landing two full bursts as headshots will kill 250 hp targets.
If an enemy is further away, Emre can aim down his rifle's sights to increase its accuracy and falloff range, and get a better view on the distant target. The damage numbers are identical to the normal firing.
- This allows Emre to remain deadly even at distance. While aiming down sights, the rifle's spread is virtually gone, making it very easy to land a full burst on a ranged target.
- Up close, however, your reduced field of vision can make this option much more cumbersome. In this case, either switch to firing from the hip or use the Siphon Blaster.
This ability serves as Emre's means of survival and as a way of brawling up-close. In this state, Emre trades his burst rifle for an explosive sidearm with lifesteal, and also gains increased mobility via a higher jump.
- During this state, Emre trades some raw damage output for significantly boosted survivability and mobility. The lifesteal and increased jump allows you to easily evade enemy attacks and heal up whatever small chip damage they might have hit you with.
- Keep in mind that it is your only means of self-defense up-close and has a lengthy cooldown, so always play around when it is available: if you have it, don't be afraid to chase enemies or hold aggressive angles, but if you don't, play it safe and keep watch for enemies attempting to flank you.
- The Blaster has a limited duration and heat sink, similar to Orisa's Augmented Fusion Driver. If it overheats, the ability will automatically end, even if the timer hasn't run out. As such, try not to fire the weapon wildly unless you need to desperately finish a target off, instead, pace your shots or use the Heat Sink perk to retain charge on direct hit.
- With the perk available, Emre can effectively duel most tanks in the game for as long as his ability is active, as they are typically large targets that are easy to land direct shots on who also deal less damage. While he may not kill them outright, he can force their attention and leave them open for the rest of Emre's team to kill.
Emre's main tool for dealing burst damage. The grenade will automatically explode after a short delay following its first bounce, or after sticking to any surface if he is using his Cyber Adhesion perk.
- This serves great as a finisher against an injured enemy or as an opener to an unaware enemy to kill them before they can react. Get used to bouncing the grenade either directly in front of a target or at a wall around them to ensure they are caught in the blast radius.
- While situational, Emre can also use his grenades' knockback to get a boosted jump, similar to Bastion. In circumstances where he wants to save his Siphon Blaster, the grenade jump can be a viable alternative, and this technique is easier to pull off if he is using Cyber Adhesion.
Emre's ultimate ability. After a short cast, Emre gains full, unrestricted flight and trades his rifle for a powerful cannon that fires either rapid fire light rounds or a charged heavy round that deals extreme damage. His light shots can be fired indefinitely, but his heavy rounds have a delay between firing.
- This ultimate is a great way of cleaning up a scattered team or forcing them to use defensive abilities to cover for you.
- Do not try to activate it while under fire, as the brief delay combined with your inability to fight back means the enemy will often be able to burst you down before you can attack. Instead, activate it from behind cover or from an unexpected angle.

Trivia
- "Emre" is an often-used Turkish male name. "Sarıoğlu" is a Turkish surname, meaning "Son of Yellow".
- Emre was first seen in an Overwatch group photo in the Ana Origin Story back in 2016, though he was unidentified at the time alongside the also then-unreleased Sojourn. Emre's identity was later confirmed in 2023 in Overwatch: Declassified.
- Prior to the confirmation of Emre's identity, he was originally referred to as "Liao" by the community until Dr. Mina Liao's lore buildup in tandem with Echo's release back in 2020.
- Two of the streamer mode name options in the game are ''EmreMain'' and ''EmreMainReal'', the latter being added after Emre's release.
- Emre often spoke of retiring in Havana.[3]
- Emre (along with Domina) are the fifth and sixth trilingual heroes respectively in Overwatch (after Baptiste, Kiriko, Illari and Vendetta) as he speaks English, Turkish and Finnish. However, it is possible that he is only able to speak Finnish as a result of his Override Protocol, as this is the only time he is heard speaking it.
- The text displayed in the visual effect that plays when Emre spawns reads "Aloitussekvenssi", which is Finnish for "Start sequence". On the other side of the HUD reads "[Varoitus] luvaton käyttöyritys kirjattu. Lähde: Tunnistamaton." Which means "[Warning] Unauthorized attempt at operation logged. Source: Unknown". Right below this is more Finnish that reads "Eheystarkistus käynnissä" meaning "integrity check in progress"
- On his official hero page, in the story section, there is a chapter titled "Overridden", with coded messaging.[4] Whilst most of it is undecipherable, the first line "VGQKCTUS: DBRQJKOKM-KBCTUS FÄYJJCSTRTTY:" is trouble decoded and translated (from Finnish) to mean "WARNING: CHERNOBOG-BYPASS INITIATED", which suggests a connection from program controlling Emre to Chernobog.[5]
- This is further seen in his voice lines, as he speaks Finnish when being controlled.
