Channeled abilities take place over a period of time. Generally, channeled abilities are interrupted, i.e. end immediately, if the user is hit by an ability that applies a stunned, knocked down or hacked status effects, such as Roadhog's Chain Hook (stun), or Sombra Hack, at any time while they are active. However, some channeled abilities may have additional effects that makes the hero immune to crowd control, such as Mauga's Overrun.
In most cases, while a channeling ability is active, other abilities or weapons cannot be used until the ability has completed, although there are few exceptions, such as Moira's Coalescence allowing the use of Fade and Sigma's Gravitic Flux allowing his Primary Fire after the lift.
Channeled abilities may be activated by a single button click, or may require the player to hold down a button in order to keep channeling the ability. Typically, channeled abilities can be switched between "Hold" and "Click/Toggle" types in settings, such as with D.Va's Boosters. Channeled abilities which require a button to be held down can typically be cancelled by releasing the button, or through other means. Some 'Click' channeled abilities can be cancelled during their cast, although this will typically use the ability cooldown.
